My views on art

How does art enrich your everyday environment?
I have always believed that an aesthetic environment at work brings out the best in people.  Likewise a beautiful home adds to the quality of life.  Art has a profound connotation for me as it is an expression of creativity.  By surrounding my self with art, I feel emotionally motivated and have always felt that it radiates the same effect on others.

What are your impressions and emotions on encountering great art?
I have always looked at the underlying creative unity that connects art and science although they appear so divergent. The same creative spark of genius that leads to a scientific breakthrough is also what creates a Van Gogh or a Picasso. It is this innovative mindset that I admire most in artists and scientists. In fact, the Renaissance period was when art and science were in perfect harmony. Leonardo da Vinci, the Italian polymath is widely considered to be the most diversely talented  person to ever have lived. He was a painter, sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist and writer and has often been described as a man whose unquenchable curiosity was equaled only by his powers of invention.

How does art influence the business atmosphere?
As I mentioned earlier, art enlivens and enriches any atmosphere. From the tints, tones and shades brought alive in the painting to what the artist is seeking to depict – just reflecting on a work of art is soothing, helping us connect to our inner selves. Art can help diffuse a tense moment or even provide that inspiration needed to bring an idea to fruition.

What is the effect of your collection on employees and visitors?
I believe in sharing the sheer wonder of great art with my employees and visitors. That is the reason I've displayed my collection at Biocon' s facilities. I believe if people are exposed to the creative genius of an artist even for a few moments, it can be an elevating experience.

Do you see an overall theme in your present collection?
I have the works of both well-known as well as not-so-famous artists. I do not buy art based on any particular theme but go by what appeals to my aesthetic sense. I have never sold a painting I bought.
